On 26 June 2025, the Bureau of the sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification met at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany.

Chaired by the COP16 President and opened by the UNCCD Executive Secretary, the meeting provided an opportunity to review progress and prepare for the upcoming milestones on the road to COP16 in Riyadh. The Bureau discussed key agenda items, including the organizational and substantive preparation for CRIC23, updates from the Committee on Science and Technology, the intersessional work on the future strategic framework, land tenure matters, and budgetary follow-up from the COP16 decisions.

The Bureau plays a crucial role in guiding the intergovernmental process and ensuring that decisions taken at COP16 are implemented effectively and inclusively. The outcomes of the meeting will contribute directly to a well-prepared and impactful COP16, taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December 2025.
