Up and Down

Or: The Sun King

Sometimes, it's worth taking a second look and exploring a place a little further, just like this mostly unspectacular shopping mall that had a huge surprise ready under its roof. Usually, I only go to the drugstore in the basement, and sometimes shop for groceries at the supermarket there. But at the end of June, I spontaneously decided to take the moving stairs and see what's upstairs.

Since then, I've been there three times: first with the LX100II and the GRIII (and I was promptly asked by an employee in a neon yellow vest – security or centre management, I assume –, what I was doing there; at least he let me continue taking photos when I explained that I was drawn to the shadow play and the roof's architecture and had no plans of photographing people). The second time, I brought along the GX9 and the 9mm wide-angle lens. And just recently, I went there with my mobile phone to check out its camera.

I must say that I'm pretty impressed, also by the many different settings and modes (quite overwhelming at first). After a direct comparison of the LX100II/GRIII/GX9 mall photos with the images from the phone camera, I can say that it's a very convenient addition to the camera, and it's fun to shoot with (I never enjoyed taking photos with my Pixel 3a). But I definitely won't ditch my cameras for my smartphone because any dedicated camera, even a point and shoot, still has better image quality. Still, I'm really happy with the results from the Galaxy. And the best camera is always the one you have with you, right?
