Coiled
Who would have thought to find such nice stairs in Berlin? Hamburg is quite famous for its stairs, but Berlin? This is the helical staircase at the Rosenhöfe ("Rose Courtyards") at Hackescher Markt. The Rosenhöfe are right next to the famous Hackesche Höfe in Berlin's historical Mitte district. Hackescher Markt and the adjacent streets with hip shops, cafés, and restaurants are quite the tourist spot, so I usually avoid the area. Still, only recently, we were there to visit the newly opened Stetson store and, of course, brought the cameras along. At one point, we got curious about the backyards, and there's a lot more to be discovered aside from the tourist hot spots.
These stairs may not be the highest, but I thought they were very pretty with the painted, ornate wrought-iron handrail and the pastel purple walls. In a way, it reminds me of a staircase one would expect to find in a fairytale castle (Sleeping Beauty is the obvious association). If you look closely, you can see a modern lock and a knob, slightly center left at the stair's first "twist". I assume these belong to a small lattice gate that will be closed after business hours.
Wishing you a nice weekend, dear Flickr friends!
