Dark City

#sliderssunday

For Sliders Sunday: More handheld high ISO fun, this time a blue hour capture from Berlin's historical center. We were walking towards the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) but sometimes it pays off to look back because the quite spectacular sunset was behind us. The historical building on the left is the back of the Bode Museum, part of the Museum Island.

As it got darker, I switched between exposure bracketing and single shots. In this scene, the camera was still set to bracketing, and because I wanted to get the S-Bahn (urban railway) into the photo I forgot to set the camera back to a single image so I had to keep the camera still quite long. As a result, not everything is tack sharp but I think the slight blur here or there adds to the atmosphere. Not that you have to wait long for urban trains or even long-distance trains in this spot because some of Berlin's most important lines ride through the Mitte district but we also wanted to capture the Berlin Cathedral at the blue hour so we decided to move on.

I combined the three bracketing images in HDR Efex and added this and that in Color Efex so this is a true slider. I hope you like it.

Happy Sliders Sunday!

P.S. Does anyone know what happened to the Flickr map? In the regular view, it is absolutely impossible to place an image in the right location. When I first opened it after uploading this photo I thought what I saw wasn't even my city. Setting it to the second viewing option ("Hybrid") helped enormously.
