Why So Grumpy, Mr Rainbow Bear?

#MacroMonday

#Translucent

Say Hello to Horatio "Grumps" Rainbow, the grumpy knitting needle stopper bear. I wonder why he was so grumpy. He hasn't been on a knitting needle in ages, instead he enjoyed the sunshine on my window sill, because the sun makes his translucent plastic body shine so nicely. And unlike his same-sized brothers (2,5 cm / 0,98 inches from head to toe), the gummi bears, he isn't edible, either, so he won't ever share their, admittedly gruesome, fate. I should admit, though, that I ate a few of his brothers during the photoshoot (tangerine flavour, mmmmmmh, cranberry flavour, yummmm...) which probably was a little insensitive from my end... Grumps also needed considerable patience, since this has been my very first, ahem, professional portrait photoshoot ever. He had to adopt several poses (and wait endlessly while I arranged the lights): "Horatio, let's try another one head-on. You know, Michael Schoeller style" – "Yet anoth...grrrrmm, yes, Silke...", "No wait, maybe you look better from the side, turn slightly to the left, please!" - "Oooh Kaaay, Silke"; "No wait, I think right is better!" – "Are. We. Done. Yet?!?"; "OK, another one head-on, I think the light looks nicer!" – "Silke, we are still friends, aren't we?"... and so on, and so on. Well, Grumps ("It's Horatio, Silke!"), I really hope that we are still friends. You were a great model! Enjoy the sunshine on the window sill :)

Now to the technical: Grumps' body is of a cool-green, soft, translucent, dust-attracting plastic. So I took him to the "bear wash" before the photoshoot to remove all those lints he'd collected during his window sill retirement. Grumps sat on a black, slightly matte lid of a small spice jar. I used three different light sources, a flashlight which I'd put right behind Grumps, and my bigger LED lights, again equipped with my makeshift colour filters, and this time I also used an intensely royal blue glass tealight holder together with the red plastic chocolate box lid. All of it combined, plus a little yellowish light from a shelf across the table, created these nice rainbow colours. This is another single image shot wide open in the fantastic 40 MP High-Res Mode.

Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, stay safe, take care!
