Transfer to Itasca
With the marine layer of clouds hangin' tough on a Sunday morning my Conductor was sent to play brakeman (uTiLiTy) with the 0200 Pokey yard job (technically a local freight) after we brought our 9,000 foot, 40 tons over the notch 7 restriction Q down from Ranier. I told Jeff we were getting bagels when we got done but then this kinda fucked it up so I went to get bagels and then surprised him and Penny over at UP's Itasca Yard on the far east side of Superior. And then y'know, took a few photos in the process. These jobs regardless of their symbol are usually called the "Peg transfer" regardless of whether it's performing interchange with BNSF at 28th Street (NP-GN), CP at Stinson (SOO) or UP here at Itasca (CNW) in deference to this being a tradition Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific assignment.
Here Jeff Wolfe waits for the guys to pull past a line to clear into a track.
