Clonmacnoise High Cross

This is a 9th century high cross at Clonmacnoise Monastery. These large sandstone crosses were placed at entrances to the churches and abbeys - this is one of seven to still be intact in the entire country. The monastery itself was founded in 545. Yeah, that's right. The year 545.
