Sphinx avenue

Part of the Avenue of Sphinxes at Luxor Temple, in Egypt. Originally the Sphinx avenue was about 2.5 kilometres in length, and ran between the Luxor Temple and the Khonso Temple at Karnak.

It was erected in the mid 4th century BC, during the reign of Pharaoh Nectanebo, and replaced a similar but earlier avenue, which was erected during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II, who ruled Egypt in the 13th century BC.
