The Battle of the Alamo took place during the Texas struggle for independence from Mexico, and lasted 13 days, from February 23, 1836-March 6, 1836.
A Mexican force of 1,000's led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna laid siege to the fort, and finally overcame the 200 defenders. These included such famous characters as Jim Bowie, William Travis and frontiersman Davy Crockett.
