The location selected is close to the trailhead for Bear Canyon. (Located at the eastern end of Spain, and slightly south.) The GPS co-ordinates were indicated as:

N35 08.748

W106 28.893

The Garmin GPSmap 60CSx unit indicated a location accuracy of plus/minus 14 feet. The first photo was taken at 11:28:20 today. The time was taken off the GPS unit. Please note that for some reason the internal clock on the camera is off by 2 minutes. The time selected was intended to line up with the Landsat 7 passing overhead. The website indicated that it would be over my position at 17:28:40 UTC, which translated to 11:28:40 (assuming I did that correctly from the other website.)

The first shot was taken 20 seconds early since it took 34 seconds to take the four horizontal shots.

1. The camera, a Nikon D200 with an 18-200mm lens was set on a tripod using a ball-head. Vibration Reduction on the lens was turned off. A bubble-level was mounted on the hot shoe for levelling the camera.

The camera was set to ISO 100, aperture priority of f11; shutter speed as determined by the camera meeter. White Balance was set on automatic. The 18mm, widest, zoom range was used.

The only "post processing" done was to correct for lens distortion using the Nikon NX2 editing software. The RAW file was then saved as a jpg file.

Please note that while I thought the lens filter was clean, apparently two dirt specks got on the lens was I was waiting...They are evident as darker gray spots on the top parts of the photos, near the center right. Apologies for that...

2. Not answered.

3. I know that there are some cholla in the photos, but don't know the other types of brush.

4. True North was located using the electronic compass function of the GPS. The other directions were determined by rotating the ball-head and referring to the 360 markings for the 90 degree rotations. For the Up and Down photos, the camera was hand held.

For the Down photo, you will see three small nail heads in the dirt. I had put them there after setting up to mark my spot. Also, the three indentations from the tripod feet are visible.

5. For the question on Land Cover Type, I am guessing that the location would be Rangeland: Shrub and Brush rangeland.
