A Central Tejo foi construída entre 1908 e 1951 e representa a antiga central termoelétrica (abastecida a carvão) que forneceu eletricidade à região de Lisboa.
Trata-se de uma construção única no panorama arquitetónico de Lisboa e um dos mais belos exemplos de arquitetura industrial em Portugal.
A sua abertura como museu deu-se em 1990.

The Central Tejo was constructed between 1908 and 1951 and represents the old thermoelectric power station (coal fueled) that powered the Lisbon region.
It is a unique construction in the architectural panorama of Lisbon and one of the finest examples of industrial architecture in Portugal.
It has been open to the public as a museum since 1990.
