Glowing Rose

I recently purchased some radio frequency triggers so that I could take pictures in bright sunlight, and still use my strobes. With line of sight triggering like the Nikon Creative Lighting System, it's often a problem to use remote strobes in broad daylight.

Before I turned on the strobes, I set a manual exposure on the camera that would underexpose the flower and plant by one to two stops. I then lit the flower with an SB600 in a snoot from underneath in an attempt to make the interior of the flower light up. I lit the top of the plant with a Strobie 130 from scottrobertstudio.com to the right of the flower and pointing down at it. Both strobes were in manual mode and were triggered by Tiny Triggers from scottrobertstudio.com. I just experimented until I got the look I wanted.

This looks best when viewed large on a dark background, and you can see it that way by pressing "L".

Other plants and flowers that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/...
