A Model Sheriff

This was taken a while back at Canyon Creek Ranch in Arizona during a workshop with the Arizona Professional Photographers Association. Between session there was time to wander around the movie set village on the ranch and take pictures of the Western themed art.

This is a metal sculpture of a sheriff, and it was difficult to light with a single strobe in the bright sunlight, particularly since I was using an 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox which absorbs two stops of light while softening that same light. I used camera setting that caused the sunlit background to go a little dark and then lit the subject with the YN560-III on full power, and positioned in front and to camera right, as as close to the sculpture as I could and keep it out of the frame. The flash was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. Basically, I was trying to overpower bright sunlight with a single strobe.

Other images that I took during the day long workshop at Canyon Creek Ranch are in my Canyon Creek Ranch Album.
