Nel libro VI dell’Odissea, Ulisse naufraga sulle coste dell'isola di Scheria, dove Nausicaa, consigliata da Atena, si era recata con le sue ancelle per giocare a palla e lavare delle vesti. Risvegliato dai loro giochi, Ulisse esce fuori da un cespuglio completamente nudo, facendo fuggire impaurite le serve, ed implora un po' di misericordia. Nausicaa "dalle bianche braccia" lo accoglie con eleganza e cortesia regalandogli dei vestiti e gli suggerisce la via per la dimora del padre Alcinoo.
In book VI of the Odyssey, Ulysses is shipwrecked on the coast of the island of Scheria, where Nausicaa, advised by Athena, had gone with her maids to play ball and wash clothes. Awakened by their games, Ulysses comes out of a bush completely naked, making the servants run away scared, and begs for a little mercy. Nausicaa "with the white arms" welcomes him with elegance and courtesy, giving him clothes and suggesting the way to the home of his father Alcinoo.
