Identification writen on the verso as Mary Tator.
Mary J. Burgess was born 14 March 1851 in Phelps, Ontario County, New York, the daughter of Lucius and Jane Burgess. In 1855, Mary was living on a farm in Phelps with her parents and seven siblings. Sometime prior to the 1875 New York census, she married Cyrus Tator (1847-1909), and the couple lived with Cyrus’ parents, Jacob and Phebe Tator, in Phelps. Mary J. Burgess passed away on 27 April 1880.
Photographer Dwight A. Pease was born circa 1819 in Lewis, New York. He was married to Mary A. McConnelly (1823-1900). Pease was listed as a daguerreotype artist in Utica, NY in 1854, and was part of Pease Brothers (with brother Alpheus Pease) from 1854-1857. He relocated to Newark, New York, and worked as a photographer there until selling his gallery in September 1878. His health was not good for the last several years of his life, and he passed away on 24 December 1889.
