Frome Allegro on Gentle Street
Taken during a tour of England in 1984, my photo is of Gentle Street in Frome, Somerset; about 13 miles south of Bath. Entirely cobblestoned, this street is Gentle in name but steep in gradient; it dates back to the town's origins in the 7th century when it was a main entry. The houses along it date from the 16th to 18th century.
Looking distinctly incongruous amid the historical setting, an Austin Allegro with a bent rear bumper distracts from the view, while further down a white sedan, possibly a Ford Escort, invites a side-swipe by being parked on a steep and narrow corner.
Pentax ME. Epson V500 scan of a Kodachrome 25 slide.
Photoshopped to remove a blue tinge and severe shadows.
