Victoria Chinatown Then & Now: 1971 & 2021

Fifty years separate my two photos of the main street of Chinatown, Victoria, B.C., Canada; Fisgard St. remains full of historical interest with some changes apparent since 1971:

- trees have arrived, to obscure some building features

- utility poles and mesh of wires have been removed

- oriental-style street lights and hanging lanterns arrived

- the oriental-style phone box has gone

- a new skyscraper looms over the scene

- the full-size 'Gate of Harmonious Interest' (on the far right) provides a grand entrance from Government Street.

Car-spotters will note the changes: (left to right):

1971 : 1964 Rambler Classic 660 sedan, 1967 Pontiac Parisienne Coupe, 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 (green), 1967 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova station wagon (brown) and others.

2021 : Jeep Liberty, BMW X3, GMC panel van, Mazda 5 minivan.

Please comment re. other vehicles.
