Downhill Skiing - on Sand !
Transport on skis has long been revered for getting around and for sport, but that of course involves snow. Not so in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, which does indeed get lots of snow in winter, but skiing enthusiasts extend the skiing season into Summer.
My photo, taken on a hot day back in 1978, shows the annual 'Sand Blast' ski races taking place on steep sand slopes on the edge of town; these slopes are the impressive "cut banks" of the Nechako River.
