Sightseeing tram : Vancouver 1940
From our collection of family photos, this is a tram (aka streetcar) operated by the BC Electric Railway Company that offered two-hour sightseeing trips around the streetcar system of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They were apparently popular for tourists and locals alike, from around 1910 onwards.
This photo has an inscription printed across the bottom, although it was too faint to scan:
" B.C.Electric Rly.Co. Observation Car. "Teddy" Lyons, Conductor. Harry Bullen, Photographer . 2608 Granville St. Phone Bay 8869 "
On the back is a date stamp : "Aug 5 1940"
This leads me to believe that each streetcar trip was posed for a photograph by Mr.Bullen, with the passengers informed where they could purchase a copy of the photo as a souvenir of their trip. Presumably one of our family or family friends at the time is a passenger on this trip, although we can't identify anyone specifically; it is, of course, over 80 years ago !
