Conceptual Series Bailey

The central idea in my photographs is the idea the first day of high school, and the hardships associated. On the first day of high school, there are many different stressors each must overcome. I wanted to capture the anxiety and tension that the first day of high school brings. Every high school student can relate to this series because no matter what age you are, the first day of school is always nerve wracking.

In this series, I demonstrated the different types of stresses and worries an incoming freshman faces. In my 1st photograph, I showed how one may feel as if everyone is talking and whispering about them. This makes a person feel very unsettled and embarrassed. In the 2nd picture, I demonstrated that a freshman might struggle to determine who to be friends with. There are many more people in the high school than in the middle school, and everyone wants to be friends with people they can be themselves around. In the 3rd photograph, I show the stress associated with homework. As a high school student, there is a greater call for dedication and focus. In my 4th photograph, I demonstrated how peer pressure could take a big toll on someone’s life, and potentially ruin it. Peer pressure can cause a person to make rash decisions, which can lead to many bad outcomes. Finally, my 5th photograph demonstrates the feeling that everyone is staring at you and watching you on your first day of high school. This definitely makes a person very nervous and one may feel as if they are not welcomed.
