Drafted Pt. 4

May 30th, 1944

 

 

 

As I speak I'm on a ship being sent out to war, they said I'm going to the Pacific, and I'm going to be held in the Mariana islands. I don't know why I'm going there for sure, but I'm assuming we're invading Saipan. I've also met a nice guy on board, his name is Jack Watts. He also said lived in Utah before he signed up.

All of a sudden, an air raid siren started going off, and then Jack yelled: "Air attack!" As he said that, one guy said: "There's four zeros on the outer ring of the fleet!" Right as he that, I thought: "We're going to get sunk". After a lot of AA fire, one of the officers said over the loudspeaker: "Bogies down with no damage to any ships, I repeat bogies down with no damage to any ships". I felt relieved.

 

 

June 2nd, 1944

 

 

We arrived at HQ, and in a week and a half we'll be landing on the beaches, and I'm definitely not looking forward to it.
