Project1-Wk3 Final

Fact: Average number of square miles by which Arctic sea ice decreased each day this summer: 36,400 (Harper's Index, Harper's Magazine Vol 325 Issue 1950 (2012) p15).

In order to visually portray this fact I decided to create a 'pop-out' style image using mainly bright bold colour throughout. I chose to use bright yellow and orange for the background to represent the summer days which is from the original fact, then using different shades of blue I created an ice berg which appears to be melting in the ocean to represent the decreasing arctic ice from the fact. As Australia tends to use kilo meters over miles I used the website: www.metric-conversions.org to convert the 36000 to 94000 to adapt the fact to the intended audience. I have shown the 94000 in the image to be a part of the ice and added a melting effect by drawing the shapes using the pencil tool in illustrator. By having the number as a part of the graphics it reduce the amount of text place on the image.
