From Bitlis to Batman
Leaving Bitlis and slowly leaving the Anatolian plateau, the nearly empty road meanders through an impressive landscape with high mountains with poor vegetation.
Soon we will enter the land of Mesopotamia (land between rivers), a name for the area of the Tigris–Euphrates river system, corresponding to modern-day Iraq, Kuwait, the northeastern section of Syria and to a much lesser extent southeastern Turkey and smaller parts of southwestern Iran.
We will also visit the (nearly drunken) city Hasankeyf and the hilly famous Tur Abdin region.
