Religious roulette

View on the Evliya Camii in Kars, a large mosque. It is now affiliated with the famous brooding round Church of the Holy Apostles. This church, was built by one of the kings of the Armenian Bagratid dynasty, King Abas I (928-951). The church got converted into a mosque after the Ottoman conquest and then became an Orthodox church after the Russians rolled into town. And now it's part of a mosque again.

in the background you see the Kars Kalesi (Kars Castle). This castle/citadel was also constructed during the Bagratid period. History relates how first the Byzantines and then the Selçuks laid siege to the castle, the latter driving out the Bagratids in 1064. Until recently the castle was occupied by the Turkish army.
