Tumbleweed Rapid Rafting Clark Fork 5200ft 7/17/2010.JPG
Rapids are difficult to portray. Only the boldest chronicler would dare try to describe one with words. Photographs are better, but even they can't usually capture the true nature of a good rapid.
Here at Tumbleweed the whole flood tumbles off a narrow ledge at once and drops half-way to hell before turning straight up and folding in on itself in a foam of white.
This is a picture of my two oldest sons age 10 and 13. Hair dripping wet, din of crashing water sounding in their ears, they look back upriver at Tumbleweed boiling in the mist just a few feet away. Mercy. They just came through it in the front of a raft.
These faces tell the story of Tumbleweed better than any picture or verse you could ever hope to find.
