Talbot Solara SX - 1982
In 1955 the French car manufacturer Simca swallowed the British/French prestigious, but bankrupt Talbot make. However, Simca never made use of the name. Chrysler Europa had allied itself with Simca in 1967, but in 1978 PSA peugeot Citroën took over the company. PSA wanted to get access to a higher market segment and decided to do away with the name Simca and to revive the Talbot name. Existing Simca models were renamed Talbot and the program was updated.
The new owners had high hopes for models like the Solara and the later Tagora. The Solara top model SX had a 4-cylinder 1,6-litre engine and the car came standard with electrically operated windows, trip computer, cruise-control, four headrests and power steering. But the cars were prone to rust and the Talbot brand was seen as a sort of afterthought. By the mid-1980s PSA dropped the Talbot for good.
