DAF 44 de Luxe - 1966
As early as 1963 DAF had decided to launch a bigger car as they felt the need for e completely new car in addition to the 33 Series. The company talked to various car designers and in the end they opted for the Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti from Turin. Michelotti simultaneously designed a saloon and break version.
In September 1966 the DAF 44 was launched : there was only one version : de Luxe.
In December 1967 a simplified (Comfort) version and a break (Combi) appeared on the market. When the DAF 55 was introduced in 1969, some modifications were made to the 44 to highlight aspects such as safety and luxury.
A total of 167.902 units were produced, which makes it the most successful DAF car range.
