In the period 1952 - 1954 Fiat built a mere 114 chassis of this sports car. 34 were foreseen of coachwork by Fiat, the other chassis going to the renowned coachbuilders of that time, among which Zagato, who built 30, but these were not identical. The car was fitted with a V8 engine of 1.996 cc, which in its last version developed 127 bhp, good for a top speed of 200 km/h. Commercially the V8 was not a success, but they proved themselves on the race track. They were the uninterrupted winners of the Italian 2 L GT championship up to and including 1959.
