Peel P50

1961 - 1964

The Peel P50 is the first product from Peel Engineering Ltd., a manufacturing company based in Peel on the west coast of the Isle of Man. The car is 134 cm long, 99cm wide and 120 cm high, making it the smallest production car in the world. Just 47 were built, between 1962-1965, of which this is the first one produced.

It weighs just 59 kilos and is powered by a noisy 49 cc DKW moped engine. The top speed is 61 km/h. Because the Peel P50 is not particularly stable, driving at top speed is not recommended. There is no reverse gear. Whoever wanted to drive backward had to get out, lift the vehicle, using a special handle at the rear, and turn it around, before stepping in again. The P50 was succeeded by the Peel Trident.
