First full monocoque chassis
During the 1960s Lotus cars gained a reputation for the use of innovative technology to gain an advantage over their competitors, and the Type 38 was no different. The first car to use a full monocoque, built upon the success of the Lotus 25 Formula One-championship-winning car to create a ground-breaking design. Powered by a Ford V8 fuel injected engine that gave out around 500 bhp. Jim Clark drove the car to victory at the 1965 Indianapolis.
