Porsche 924 Carrera GT Concept - 1979

The Performance Athlete

- In the autumn of 1979 Porsche made a big splash at the Frankfurt IAA with a mother-of-pearl study of the Carrera GT.

- This high-performance sports car was designed as a street-usable competition car, and was powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

- Flared wings and an air scoop on the bonnet made its racing ambition unmistakable.

- Series production got under way in the summer of 1980, and within just five months the 400 cars required for motorsports homologation had been built.
