After Paul Daimler left the company Horch, Fritz Fiedler took his place and developed a new engine generation. This new engine was first used in the series 400 starting with Type 410. Because of the world economic crisis, drastic cost-cutting measures were done. Moreover a new strategy was used, which lead to a strong diversification of the production program by different wheelbases and engine sizes. The buyers could chose between two wheelbases and four engines. In September 1931, even a 3 liter model.
