Audi Space Frame Concept - 1993

ASF Tokio Concept Car

Only a month after the first Audi Space Frame (ASF) concept car with V8 TDI engine had been exhibited at the 1993 Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi added to the sensation it had already caused by using the Tokyo Motor Show to display this version, finished in Imperial red and powered by a 4,8-litre W12 engine with five valves per cylinder. It was a further indication of how weight-saving design and an aluminium body could be employed for a large luxury car. The concept car's twelve-cylinder engine has three bank of four cylinders, hence the use of the letter W to describe it, its maximum torque of 480 Nm was reached at an engine speed of only 3.500 rpm.
