DKW F 9 Concept - 1941
'Auto Union'
Before the outbreak of the Second World War DKW was developing a new model that was to be launched as the 'High Class' to compete with the anticipated Volkswagen.
A new 28-hp 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine was to give the new car excellent performance on the road. The body was impressively aerodynamic, a style that was increasingly favored now that Germany's 'autobahns' permitted higher average speeds.
The outbreak of hostilities prevented the F9 from entering in 1940, as had been planned.
In fact it was not offered for sale until after the war. Since Germany was then divided, 2 different versions appeared in due course : the IFA (Industrieverwaltung Fahrzeugbau) in the German Democratic Republic produced the IFA F 9, and in 1953 the new Auto Union GmbH in west-Germany presented the DKW 3=6 Sonderklasse F91.
