Matra 'Espace' Concept - 1981
P18
The P18 shown here was proposed to the management of Peugeot-Talbot, commercial partner of Matra since Simca's repurchase. Mechanics were borrowed to the brand from Sochaux. Its manufacturing could have started the year after.
Peugeot was interested in the project but didn't have enough funds to launch an new vehicle.
After this refusal, the Matra managers turned towards Citroën with the P20, but once again the project failed.
It was only in december 1982 that bernard Hanon, Renault's CEO, gave green light to the P23 prototype. The Espace was launched.
