Kilmersdon Colliery 11th September 1967
Kilmersdon Colliery was at a much higher level than the nearest railway line, which was the GWR line from Frome to Radstock and ultimately on to Bristol. Wagons were transferred from the colliery to the outside world by means of a rope worked incline, the weight of loaded wagons going down being used to haul empty wagons up.
The colliery was the last of the North Somerset pits to close, its end coming in 1974.
