E-91B Orbitally Dropped Precision Explosive
A non-powered, laser-guided ordnance delivery system, the E-91B was another controversial weapon designed by James Gaerlan and manufactured by Integrated Weaponry Inc. The missile had a completely revolutionary design and after the first few were dropped on defenseless Separatist homesteads, it became one of the most recognizable and feared symbols of the war.
The radical new design also required new delivery tactics. Because they were not powered by anything but the force of gravity, they needed to be dropped from very high altitudes. GH-23 Cricket variants equipped with MDR-A3 Cargo Carriages were the first vehicles to deploy the E-91B. The additional speed and increased flight ceiling of GH-23 MDR's made them ideal for unloading the undetectable, silent ordnance.
A two stage device; when deployed, the E-91B would release four canted stabilizing fins which kept the device from veering off course by spinning in a tight spiral. Seconds before impact, the second stage would release the final flaps that protected the precious payload.
However, what made the E-91B contoversial was not the new design or delivery method, it was what it carried. Filled with a deadly explosive plasma that would burn and melt any material it came into contact with, the E-91B was originally used to destroy towns and cities loyal to Separatists- and consequently devastated the morale of the Separatist Army.
The E-91B's introduction to service was the "carpet bombing" of two defenseless and otherwise nonvaluable cities; the remnants of what used to be Spokane, Washington and Sacramento, California are still burning to this day.
