Settimo Torinese - Torre medievale
Il castello, da tempo scomparso, e la relativa torre furono costruiti sul sito di un precedente fortilizio, noto solo per fonti d'archivio, probabilmente tra la fine del Trecento e l'inizio del Quattrocento. Planimetria e ambienti del castello di cui la torre faceva parte, tuttavia, non ci sono pervenuti.
Fonti quattrocentesche attestano che il complesso difensivo, in ogni caso, era assai ampio. Oltre al castello, esso comprendeva la "villa", o borgo, e il ricetto, uno schema frequente nel tardo Medioevo. Il borgo era dotato di fortificazioni perimetrali e fossati il cui tracciato è ancora oggi ricalcato delle moderne vie Antonino, Roosevelt, Mazzini, Astegiano e Matteotti, mentre a sud doveva essere parzialmente delimitato dalle strutture del castello. A ridosso di quest'ultimo, verso il borgo, sorgeva il ricetto, un'ulteriore struttura difensiva destinata a proteggere gli abitanti del luogo e i loro beni, servendo da rifugio e forse anche da ridotto militare.

The castle, which has long since disappeared, and its tower were built on the site of a previous fortress, known only from archival sources, probably between the end of the fourteenth century and the beginning of the fifteenth century. Plan and rooms of the castle of which the tower was part, however, have not survived.
Fifteenth-century sources attest that the defensive complex, in any case, was very large. In addition to the castle, it included the "villa", or village, and the shelter, a frequent scheme in the late Middle Ages. The village was endowed with perimeter fortifications and moats whose layout is still traced today of the modern Antonino, Roosevelt, Mazzini, Astegiano and Matteotti streets, while to the south it had to be partially delimited by the castle structures. Behind the latter, towards the village, stood the shelter, a further defensive structure intended to protect the inhabitants of the place and their possessions, serving as a refuge and perhaps also as a military reduced.
