Elegant Trogon 0569

A fine pose under less than optimal circumstances. I learned something important this day. When disaster strikes and your camera confirms Newton's Second Law ... in brief, gravity will always win in a competition between the sturdiness of your camera versus the force of impact of said camera on a large boulder when accelerating at 32 ft/sec/sec in free fall. After taking my favorite 100-400mm v2 lens, now in two pieces, back to the car and swapping it with my "backup" older 100-400 model 1 ... I come face to face with my Trogon target not 20 minutes later. What I learned is that when you go buy a new lens because your old lens is tired and not functioning at top shape anymore, putting it in your bag as a "backup" is rather pointless. Really, you're just carrying around something that you didn't use for a reason and wouldn't want to use again. So after about 200 out of focus, ugly shots I found myself having to way over process these images to (marginally) save them. So, note to everyone ... don't carry a "backup" lens or body that you retired for a good reason. Go buy a used or new spare (lens, body etc,) that you know you can count on when needed.
