Trophic Interaction

This trophic interaction involves many things. The gopher hole allows the mammal to interact with the soil and the plant life on the ground as well as the various insect species that are being kicked out of their homes when the gopher digs.

I believe that the most influential species on my site is the gopher or other small rodents. The trifolium clover species is the most overpopulated species that seems to cover most of the entire site. It is also the main food source for most of the insects in the area. The insects are in turn limited by this seemingly unlimited food resource. This results in what should be an overpopulation of insects and herbavores. Why don’t we see this happening? The predators of those species are limiting the growth of the various insects. This results in the gophers and small rodents being the most influential species in my opinion. If the predators of these insects and herbivores where to be taken out we would expect to see an overpopulation of those insects and herbivores. If the influential species became invasive then the populations of the herbivores would decrease and the population of the plant life would decrease.

The trifolium clover isn’t limited by anything besides soil type and area. Therefore the limiting factors are almost unbound in this case

The squirrel is a rodent that eats small nuts and insects therefore it is limited by the trees that produce the food they eat and the insects they eat. In turn they are ultimately limited by the local flora.

The rollie pollie insect Is limited by the decomposing plant material that is available to them. The decomposition of the flora is limited by the amount of flora available and the speed at which they are able to die off and become ingestible for the insect.
