Wiltshire Regiment 1900
I bought an interesting book for £1 in Heathfield today. It is called The Transvaal in War and Peace by Neville Edwards. Published in 1900 by H Virtue and Co. It mainly concerns itself with the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902 ) which was obviously still in progress when the book was published so much of it is written in an immediate style, much in the present tense. Anyway..one image was of the Wiltshire Regiment and I know there is some interest by the Swindon Local History people on flickr so I am posting this one up.
The Wiltshires took some heavy casualties during the Boer War apparently a couple of companies were cut off and captured and some of the men pictured here have references on the net.
Major Francis Richard MacMullen (seated second from left middle row) from the 2nd Wiltshire Regiment Died of wounds at Rensburg Siding on 15th February 1900 at the age of 44. He was born in May 1855.
