Wisdom
Illustration; ink, watercolor, acrylics and tempera on watercolor paper. Inspired by the Chinese traditional legends and tales. Summer, 2012.
This illustration is also influenced by the Chinese legends. In it we see an old man in the foreground who`s pipe smokes up above his head. The dragon is again an important character. He is the old man`s guardian and is part of his spirit, they are one. However, the dragon is not visible to everyone. The dragon can be seen only when the smoke puffs from the old person`s pipe because it is the source of his wisdom. This is why I made the majestic creature part of the smoke coming out of the pipe. In the background we see a tall tree. Behind it there are the traditional Chinese houses called '' Pagoda'' and also mountains which are part of the landscape in China.
The old man was also important as a character so I made many sketches to create him exactly the way I wanted. The clothes required research and I had a lot of fun doing them.
I really tried to experiment with the media and the techniques in this illustration to make it more interesting and complicated. I actually used nail polish , detergent and powder to create some effects. I detailed the background with acrylics and ink.
