Jan 7 2014 AR1944 Sun Spot
Extreme Astrophotography: A new sport?
I have not had much in the way of clear skies over the past few months, but just had to take a crack at Active Region 1944 the giant sun spot now in the centre of the disk.
With the temperate at -38*C or -36.4*F with the wind-chill I set up my CGEM-DX C-11:
At this temperature human skin freezes solid after 5 minutes of direct exposure.
The CGEM worked fine in this cold, the C-11 although not designed for this type of cold did allow me to almost come to focus on the sun spot, and I snapped a few RAW’s with the Canon 5d. The CCD camera would not even start up, but it is not designed for this kind of cold and my laptop lasted no more than 10 minutes, the mouse died a few seconds in the cold.
