Alignment
This is a view of Chicago from the top of the Sears Tower. Alignment is extremely prevalent in developed cites such as Chicago. It is a useful way of organizing a city to allow residents to navigate through the city more easily. Straight lines are easier to follow and memorize than curves. Old cities such as Mexico city (it's been around since the 1500's) have disorganized streets and criss crossing highways that make navigation extremely difficult.
