Swirling all around us these days are the horrendously misguided efforts to "protect copyright" and "insure the integrity of intellectual property." Fuck that. What good is it to create and share ideas if there are strings attached and barriers to access? What jerks in suits hiding behind dorky acronyms don't get is that people, one way or another, will find the ideas or the creative works that excite and interest them regardless of whether they will be excessively punished for "sharing" that work. Why not work to create fair and equitable systems that truly benefit the artists and creators, while ensuring the broadest access possible? With systems like Creative Commons licenses developed for new media realties, it's time to blow the lid off our past conceptions and embrace the brave new world of ideas and entertainment that await.
