Never too late by Klas

This image is my entry to the Ming Thein B&W Challenge. Inspired by Mings writings I decided to not pick the best of my old stuff or hunt through my archive for something that would be suitable for B&W conversion.

This photo is taken for the challenge. Lightning and composition was planned from the beginning and I had a clear(ish) picture in mind of what I wanted the finished black and white picture to look like.

The result may not be the most stunning picture in the world and I have no hope of winning the challenge, but it's been a great learning experience and that's much more important.

Strobist info:

A more detailed lighting description will follow later.

Three speedlights have been used. One big keylight, a combined kicker/backlight and a improvised strip to get the highlight in the vase.

Since this was destined for B&W, I wanted as much texture as possible from the flowers and the leaves. The vase is secondary so no contours, but it's my hope that the highlight together with the refraction gives enough indication of the form and takes away any impression of the tulips hanging in the air.
