Amazing what the locksmith can do!
The car in 18 years old. Both keys I have are difficult to use and really really worn out. See key on the left. The car is too old for the manufacturer to still have the key code records available ( per the dealer here ). Next stop was a locksmith in town. He took the worn out key and used his experience to figure out the most likely key cutting codes based on what is left on the key. Then he verified that against a reference he has to determined that it was actually within a key code series that Nissan has used before. It was so he cut the new master key using that code and it works like a new car now . . . . Well, at least the door locks and ignition switch does. LOL
