Plaster and pigment

Fresco

A reclining woman leans forward to offer a peopard a drink from a liver kantharos (ritual cup). both leopards and kantharoi were assoicated wtih Baccus, thus the woman is probably a maenad, one of his female followers. The artist skillfully rendered spatial depth through the play of light and shadows.
