Introduction
Your name is? Melissa Manser
Where are you from? I grew up in the Bay Area of California in San Jose. Went to UO freshman year of college and then moved up to Portland!
What is your major, and what inspired you to choose it?
My major is in Communication. I honestly chose it because I like to write and I feel it is really broad and applicable to a multitude of fields and jobs (HR, PR, Advertising, Marketing, Branding, etc., etc.) I want to take a creative direction in terms of industry/career path so I decided to minor in Design Management.
How do you spend your time outside of school? Spending with friends, eating, drinking, sleeping.
What are you interested in besides (or in relation to) graphic design? I have always loved interior design. I'd like to get a 2 year certificate somewhere once I graduate this spring. I've also always loved all things food/culinary, so exploring new foods and restaurants is something I'm always up to do. I also am fascinated with Japan.
Is there a certain kind of design work that you’d like to make? not that I am aware of...yet.
Favorite books? I just finished "Norwegian Wood" by Murakami and enjoyed it a lot. I've currently got Vanity Fair (magazine) sitting on my bedside table and hope to tackle some classics (East of Eden, etc.) this year, as well as 1Q84.
Favorite designers or artists? No major favorites. I like clean, simple classic style in all realms of design.
Favorite movies? I just saw Django Unchained over break, so I'll say that's my top. The Master was my recent favorite up until that point. I also love Drive (or anything with RyGos, really).
How do you get to school everyday? PriPri (Prius)
Do you have any cool/weird/unexpected skills? I am a master at Catchphrase.
What is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to?
I went to Japan last year and absolutely loved it. [The picture above is me with an adorable lil' pup outside the Osaka Aquarium] It was scary (having known 0 japanese going there) but everyone was super nice and it's very safe. I went to Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara, and sang karaoke with Japanese bartenders! I can't wait to go back one day and go to Tokyo, Kobe, and Okinawa.
