This is the wreckage of a US Navy DC-3 plane that crash-landed on a black sand beach in southern Iceland in 1973. The crew survived, but the plane was left behind and has become a popular attraction for tourists and photographers. I visited this site in the evening, when the light was soft and golden. I was inspired by the contrast between the white metal of the plane and the dark sand of the beach, as well as the sense of isolation and mystery that surrounded this place. I wanted to capture the beauty and the history of this plane, which has been slowly decaying for almost 50 years
